Hi, I’m David Holquin, an all around musician, music producer, and band coach with over 20 years of professional experience and 15+ years of teaching. I’ve spent most of my life behind the kit, in the studio, and on stage — as well as helping students discover the same excitement and confidence that music has brought me.
My journey started with a love for high-energy classic rock at an early age — a spark ignited by my dad’s ‘80s hair metal records and my neighbor’s introduction to melodic European rock. Before long, I was playing drums and guitar in local bands, performing live, writing songs for my band and learning everything I could about sound, songwriting, and production. That curiosity grew into a lifelong passion for helping others create music, not just play it.
Today, I teach guitar, ukulele, bass, drums and music production/recording, offering lessons that are customized for each student’s goals — whether that’s learning their first song, producing original music, or preparing to perform live. My approach combines structure with creativity, building not only musicianship but confidence, discipline, and expression. For the past 11 years, I was blessed to be part of Learn Music in Cornelius, helping students grow as musicians and reach their goals through private lessons and band programs. At Newton Music Academy, I look forward to building band programs of our own in the near future.
When I’m not teaching, I perform/serve regularly with local cover bands like Mocktallica (Metallica tribute), The Long Drive Home (90s and 00s cover songs), VLVD (metalcore) as well as Forest Hill Church, staying active in the Charlotte music community. Whether it’s a one-on-one lesson, a full band rehearsal, or a deep dive into recording and mixing, I love watching my students grow into artists who can stand tall behind their instruments.
Let’s make something unforgettable — one note, one groove, one song at a time.

Some of the youngest have enrolled as early as 4 years old but lessons are available to all ages!
I strongly recommend the student owning their own instrument. I can direct you in the right path if you have any questions about what to purchase.
